This post will be edited over time to add more routes The information in this post came from the “Bve Trainsim Players Wiki”. The site is in Japanese. This is an English guide to routes I find interesting. English installation instructions are included here too.

BVE5 is the fifth version of the “Boso View Express” train simulator made by mackoy. It is very flexible as routes are created using text files and 3D objects are supplied by the user. Vehicle performace parameters, physical parameters (adhesion, gradient) and loading/disembarking parameters such as “passenger stuck in door probability”.

Troubleshooting information

BVE5 will not start

Solution: Install prerequisites

  1. Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 End User Runtime (Usually For Windows XP, 10)
  2. DirectX End User Runtime

I installed it perfectly yet I have file not found errors

Solution: Change the system non-unicode default encoding into Japanese. If you are using windows xp, you will need the installation disk. Caveat: Some installation programs may display in Japanese. If this is the case, select English or 英語 as the installation language.

Notes

  1. Scenario already includes all trains it adds to the selection screen.
  2. Please read the manual first. Unlike your usual BVE scenario, the train safety system(ATS,…) is hard to use.

Installation Instructions

  1. Go to site link
  2. Press the “Download from OneDrive” hyperlink to download the zip file.
  3. Extract the zip file
  4. Place contents into the default BVE5 scenario directory
    • Located at: C:\Users\username\Documents\BVE5\Scenarios
    • The contents to copy consist of 2 text files and a folder.

Driving Quick Start 

- _please read the included PDF if possible it has instructions on how to work the safety system_
- Immediately release emergency brake [, key]
- Set reverser to forward [↑ key]
- Wait for conductor departure bell (2 rings)
- Release brakes [, key] until brakes are released.
- Press [z key] to accelerate forward
- Do not surpass the speed restriction or the emergency brakes will activate

Installation

Please note that in this case, the download for the train file is different from the route file. After you download the route file, follow the links to download the individual train files.

  • The first group of trains on the site consists of local trains(普通).
  • The second group consists of express trains(特急).
  • The third group consists of older local trains(普通).
  • The forth group (one train only) is a freight train(貨物列車). Each group has its own scenario file and corresponding train files. If you want to download all, 4 scenario files and all 7 trains must be downloaded.

Prerequesites

You need the JR train pack.
